June 2026 Edition
June has a way of arriving with both urgency and a chance to pause. The end of the financial year forces us to reflect, and this month has felt mixed across the ag scene. Some businesses are in confident, active decision-making mode. Others are working through harder terrain. That mix is just the reality of where the industry on the whole is sitting right now.
For those I work closely with through AgCelerate, June is heavily focused on clarity. Clarity on where they are, clarity on the numbers, and clarity on what actually needs to happen next. No noise, no distraction, just a clear line of sight on the decisions that matter.
That focus is particularly timely, because there is a sense at the moment that opportunities are presenting themselves with more frequency than we have seen in recent time. Properties coming to market, expansion conversations opening up and decisions that have sat on the back burner starting to feel more alive.
These options challenge us to consider the following:
Is our business genuinely ready to handle the opportunity it is being asked to consider? Are the foundations solid? Can the debt position genuinely absorb another commitment? Are the systems and the people in place to run a larger operation well?
There is more on that below, along with everything else we hope you find useful this month.
Enjoy the June Chronicle.

Before you grow: is the business ready to carry it?
Over the past few months, my business has experienced significant growth. For that, I’m incredibly grateful. Yet alongside the excitement has come something I didn’t expect: Reflection. Growth, I’ve discovered, has a way of acting as a circuit breaker.
Fenceline weed control
About one-quarter of new herbicide resistance cases are on fencelines and other non-crop areas. It's not too late to take preventative action before weeds in these areas get too big or start to set seed.
We have gathered some resources* from the WeedSmart website with a focus on managing fencelines and crop borders:
What are the options to manage glyphosate and paraquat-resistant ryegras
Can I win against ryegrass with dual-resistance to glyphosate and paraquat
*Always follow label instructions carefully and seek advice for your specific situation.
Podcast Recommendation
Australian Farmers: Telling Our Story
Hosted by journalist Angie Asimus and supported by the National Farmers' Federation, Australian Farmers: Telling Our Story shares authentic conversations with farmers from across the country, exploring the people, innovation and resilience behind Australian agriculture. It's an inspiring listen for anyone passionate about the future of farming.
Project Update: From Both Sides of the Fence
The Roadside Weed Control: From Both Sides of the Fence project continues across the Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsula, with resistance testing underway and valuable insights emerging from workshops, field discussions and weed assessments.
A key message from the project is the importance of understanding weed lifecycles and targeting weeds at the right growth stage. As winter conditions settle in, annual ryegrass and sowthistle are actively growing and at one of the most effective stages for control. Early intervention before weeds mature and set seed remains one of the best ways to reduce future weed pressure.
Resistance testing has already identified concerning patterns in some roadside sowthistle populations, while ryegrass testing remains underway. Looking ahead, winter is also the ideal time to assess areas affected by flaxleaf fleabane and Feathertop Rhodes grass and plan management strategies before spring and summer arrive.
Workshop discussions have also highlighted the importance of coordination between roadside and on-farm weed programs. Early conversations between landholders, councils and contractors can significantly improve outcomes on both sides of the fence.

Quote of the Month
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison
Opportunity rarely arrives as a breakthrough moment or big idea. More often, it is found in the everyday tasks, careful planning, difficult conversations and small improvements that build momentum over time.
In agriculture, success is seldom achieved overnight. It comes from consistently showing up, putting in the work and recognising that some of the greatest opportunities are hidden within the daily routine.
Thriving Women 2026 - 10-11 August, Bendigo
The Women on the Land (WoTL) Thriving Women Conference is coming to Bendigo on 10–11 August, bringing together women from across regional and rural Australia for two days of inspiring speakers, practical sessions and valuable networking opportunities.
Having completed the WoTL Stepping into Leadership program myself, I know firsthand the value of investing in your own growth and connecting with like-minded women. This year, I'm proud to be supporting the program as a mentor and will also be attending the conference.
Whether you're looking to develop your leadership skills, gain fresh perspectives or simply take some time to focus on your own development, the Thriving Women Conference is well worth considering.
