November 2025 Edition
Somehow we are approaching the closing stages of November and like the rest of this year, it seems we blink and another month has gone by. Headers are out, hay is either undercover or on the ground (thanks Mother Nature), silage is underway, and there’s livestock demanding attention on top of it all. It’s that time of year when the days blur together and the list never seems to shorten.
So yes, it’s busy. But even in the thick of it, it’s worth lifting your head for a moment. Because while you’re working in the season, plans for 2026 and beyond are already being shaped. Agronomists are mapping out next year’s rotations and inputs, and the best decisions - the ones that really set a business up, come from those who know where they’re heading, not just what’s next.
This month, I encourage you to put on your CEO hat. Whether you’re the owner, the manager, or somewhere in between, you’re the one setting the course for the next year and beyond. And even if it’s just a few minutes between paddocks, it’s worth asking: How do I want my business to look like on the other side of this harvest?
Wherever November finds you - behind the wheel, on the tools, or keeping everything else afloat, I hope this edition gives you a moment of perspective amid the pace.
Enjoy the November Chronicle.

From 2026 to 2030: Planning the path ahead
2030 might sound a long way off but it’s closer than you think. Four harvests. A few machinery upgrades. A handful of business reviews or budgets and suddenly, we’re there.
The choices you make over the next few years will shape what your business looks like by 2030.
Having a long-term vision gives context to every short-term decision. It keeps you grounded when the season gets busy and ensures your time, money, and effort are going toward something that matters.
When you know what you want your business to look like in 2030, you can start asking What needs to happen in 2026 to make that possible?
2026 is not just another year on the calendar; it’s the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be by the end of the decade.

Project Update: From Both Sides of the Fence
It's full steam ahead for the Roadside Weeds project with our project and website now live.
Paige & the Cross family have been travelling both the Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsula over the last few weeks collecting an assortment of Ryegrass and Sow Thistle samples. These are off to Dr Peter Boutsalis and the Plant Science Consulting team to commence testing for herbicide resistance.
This collection will continue into summer when they will be back to collect Flaxleaf Fleabane and Feathertop Rhodes Grass.
You can find more information about this project here. Please share with your network in the two regions and encourage them to attend a workshop in the new year.
Quote of the Month
“Do not judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson
In farming and in business, it’s easy to focus on immediate results - the harvest, the profit, or the outcomes you can see today. But real growth is often built quietly, over time, from small, deliberate actions.
Stevenson’s words remind us that each task, effort, and decision matters, even if the payoff isn’t immediate. Planting the right “seeds” now - whether it’s nurturing your crops, building relationships, or investing in new systems sets the stage for success in the seasons ahead.
So as you move through your day-to-day, remember that progress isn’t always visible in the moment. What counts is the care, consistency, and attention you put in today - the seeds that will grow into tomorrow’s results.
Victorian Drought Support
Whilst the conditions across much of Victoria seem to be improving, the legacy of the last 2 years is continuing to have an impact on cashflow and farming businesses. Many farming businesses are weighing up big decisions – do we buy, lease, cut back, or hold steady?
Through Agriculture Victoria’s drought support program, eligible farmers can access up to 4 hours of 1:1 support with me at no cost. This is your chance to sit down with me, pressure test ideas, build cashflow scenarios, and make clear, considered decisions for your farm business.
If you’ve been carrying the weight of these decisions on your own, now’s the time to get the right support.
